Japan's PS3 supply dries up in anticipation of PS3 slim

Last week, a document was allegedly leaked indicating that 80GB PS3s would no longer be shipping to retailers in Japan, with speculation indicating this was in anticipation of the PS3 Slim. Now, reports are coming in that Japanese retailers are beginning to feel the effects of this move.

Several Sofmap stores, a large Japanese electronics retailer, are completely exhausted of PS3 units. The extent of this was further highlighted by the latest Media Create sales numbers, which put the PS3 near all time lows at 5,800 units sold over the last week.

Sony is expected to announce a PS3 price cut and slimmed down PS3 model next week at GamesCom in Germany, and for the sake of Japan, they had better!
